Structural appraisal / surveying is a specialist area, and requires a good understanding of existing buildings.
There can be many different reasons when a structural engineering appraisal/ survey is needed. For example:-
- in the purchase of a new building when a client seeks to establish existing structural condition of his potential purchase;
- when there is a proposed change of use to the existing building which may have loading and other implications;
- when a client seeks to assess the severity of defects and deteriorations found in his building(s), and advice on their repair solutions ;
- when accidental damages have occured (such as fire or vehicular impacts ), the structural conditions of the remaining structure will need to be ascertained, and the scope of repair work defined
